How to Clear Backlog

If you have missed a few classes or simply just fell behind because of any reason, a study backlog is both concerning and difficult to remedy. backlog is created due to various reasons like lack of planning, procrastination and simply not studying for enough time or not keeping track of studies. When a backlog is created, a student has the fear of missing out (FOMO) on studies.

Usually, students realize that they have a backlog very late in their preparation. Nevertheless, with proper planning and execution, backlogs can be cleared effectively. Here are some tips which may help you to clear your backlog.

1. Stay calm.

Don't Panic. Instead, just focus on staying in control of your actions and mind. Repeat to yourself, “I can do this,” while taking a few deep breaths. Think about another time that you faced a difficult situation and beat it.

If you find yourself dwelling on the negative possibilities, say aloud, “Focus on the present and future.”

2. Find quiet study spaces.

For each bit of free time, come up with a study spot in advance. You may head to a particular table in the library or perhaps a quiet coffee house nearby. Try to rotate your spots every few times or so, otherwise you may fall into a bored routine and slow down.

Make sure that these are areas where you can study without encountering too many distractions.

3. Eliminate any distractions.

When you sit down to study, turn off your phone and put it away. Resist the urge to browse the internet or hit any social media sites on your computer. Put your other “to-do” list out of your mind and concentrate on finishing up as much work as you can.

4. Be with the class from now on

Never lag behind from now on. I mean to say that if chapter is going on in class and you are stuck with work of previous chapter , then you are in trouble. You already have a lot of backlog, it’s better not to increase it now.

Your should spend your major time on solving what’s going currently in class. It’s not that you will spend your whole day in trying to clear previous work. This will lead to nothing because once this backlog gets cleared, you will have a new one and the cycle of backlog will go on .and this may lead to a trouble in coming future.

5. The Only way to Clear Backlog

There are no shortcuts to clearing backlogs. The only way out is to put extra 1-2 hours of study daily apart from your daily routine. In these 1-2 hours, you should study everything that you have missed out so far. Start by making a list. Create a list of all the chapters that you need to study in the next few months/weeks in these extra hours.

Remember, if you are not putting in the extra hours, then you are not really clearing the backlogs. It is important to study consistently every day to clear backlogs.

Rest of the time should be exclusively reserved for the present homework.

6. Make a Schedule

Once you have a list of chapters that need to be studied to clear the backlog, start with creating a daily schedule. The daily schedule should be realistic and should help you clear your backlogs in the next few weeks/months. You should have a monthly, weekly as well as daily schedule for your studies.

7. Take up one chapter at a time

Don’t juggle around here and there. Don’t get confused with questions like “How to start?” “From where should I begin?”. Start with your favourite subject. If you love maths the most, then take up the most easiest chapter left and start solving it. Take your time but solve the material honestly. I am saying to start off with easiest and favourite topic because this will give you confidence and once you become confident, you can do anything or probably most of the things.

For slow learners

If you are a slow learner or slow problem solver then clearing a backlog would be a difficult challenge for you. So there is one thing you can do . Dont clear the whole backlog instead focus focus on limited chapter .. I mean to say focus on those chapter whose weightage is more and are easy to solve also for example electrostatics is a easier chapter but it is bigger one and takes lots of time as compared to current electricity it is easier needs lesser time and its weightage is more that that of electrostatics.

And those particularly selected chapters you should first solve Previous year paper then your Coaching practice problems from sheets or Coaching modules and at the end Other books which are for reference.

Follow this way to ensure that even if you are not able to get your complete work done, you should at least have all basic concepts of those chapters cleared.

Hey, I didn't mean that you don’t have to complete your all work. You just have to get your concepts in proper place right now. Rest of the work should be done whenever you have some free time or there is a long holiday like the ones you will get after a big test in coaching centre / Diwali Holidays / 2 months gap that you get when class 11th is over and 12th is about to start. If not atleast learn some formulas in physics some time basic ques are also asked .you can use tips in other subjects too.

8. Keep Track of your Studies

Keeping track of studies is very important, especially when preparing for exams with a vast portion like NEET or IIT -JEE. Usually, it is the students that don’t keep a track of their studies, who end up with such backlogs.

9. Identify possible study partners.

Talk to your classmates and try to arrange group study sessions. This will help to keep you accountable while also increasing the knowledge that you can draw upon. However, make sure to stay on-task during these sessions.

Experiment with different study strategies as a group. For example, take turns teaching a subject to one another.

10. Contact your teacher or professor if necessary.

If you are still feeling overwhelmed, there is nothing wrong with reaching out to your teacher. Stay after class or go to their office hours and tell them about your situation and what you are doing to fix it. Ask for their advice.

11. Don’t Take Stress

There is no point of taking stress now. It is scientifically proven that stress lowers down your energy level and your work efficiency. You have done a mistake but the good thing about all this is that you know you have done a mistake and want to correct it. Be calm, be patient. Everything will be fine.

12. Exercise and eat healthy.

Proper nutrition and physical activity can enhance your mood, give you more energy, and improve your focus. Schedule in a little time for exercise each day, even if it's just a 15-minute walk. Aim to eat lean protein, fruits, veggies, and complex carbohydrates each day to keep your mind and body strong as well.
